When we think of gaming laptops, the first image that comes to mind is chunky, chunky laptops with an exaggerated design and massive heat vents to cool the hardware under the hood.

All this with a considerable weight which makes it really uncomfortable to carry around every day. However, Asus’ ROG Flow X13 is the exact opposite of that, while still maintaining a powerhouse under the hood and from the moment I first turned it on my mind was truly blown away.
Here are five things I really liked about the Asus ROG X Flow 13
Sleek and sturdy construction
Even though it’s a gaming laptop, the whole machine comes in a compact 13-inch form factor that weighs just 1.30 kilograms and is barely 1.58 centimeters thick. This means that the machine is light enough to be carried in a backpack all day without any back pain.
The entire laptop gets a wavy texture that adds character to the otherwise all-matte black aesthetic. This laptop works great as a sleeping machine, where no one can really figure out that it is a gaming laptop. Even though most of it is polycarbonate, the machine is sturdy and has no bending.
Flexible work flow
The flexible nature of the Flow X13 allows it to be used in a variety of use cases and is not limited to the conventional orientation of a laptop. Its touchscreen can tilt fully back, transforming it into a Wacom-like tablet, perfect for designers on the go.
It can also be propped up in tent mode, which could be ideal if you’re watching a movie or playing games using a controller, without the keyboard adding to the overall distance. And even running it through its various modes, the machine gave just the right amount of flex, making it feel like it’s made for whatever mode you choose.
The 13.4-inch touchscreen makes this machine a creative professional’s dream. The panel has a resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels in 16:10 aspect ratio. The touchscreen supports 116% sRGB, 86% Adobe, and 85% DCI-P3 color gamut.

The panel is a pleasure to work with, and the high resolution and color accuracy make it perfect for editing images and videos. The extra holder for the stylus (not included in the box) is surely something people who love to doodle will fall in love with.
No slouch in performance
Under the hood, Flow X13 is powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor, clocked at 3.1 GHz. This is paired with 16GB of DDR4 memory and Nvidia’s GTX 1650 GPU.
By subjecting it to synthetic benchmarks, the results translate into an ideal machine for editing, vector graphics, and even light gaming on the go.
When playing Forza Horizon 4, the machine delivered 60 fps with ease on Full HD resolution at very high settings. Even demanding titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator gave 30-35fps with ease on Full HD settings.
XG mobile docking station
While the performance of the ROG Flow X13 is no slouch, the machine gives you the option to take it to the next level with the XG mobile docking station. It’s basically an external GPU case that can include up to an RTX 3080 clocked at 1810MHz at 150W with ROG Boost.

It also contains plenty of ports, including an HDMI 2.0b port, a DP 1.4, an RJ-45 LAN port, a DC input jack, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A and an SD card reader. The unit we received didn’t come with the XG Mobile Dock, but if you’re looking for more firepower you still have the flexibility for that.
