How do I play “Fortnite” on a Chromebook?


Google has managed to become not only a major player in the mobile smartphone software landscape, but also in the laptop game. Chrome OS is the result of Google’s aggregation of all the data they have acquired from mass computing use. The giant tech maker has seen what people’s habits are and has developed an operating system that is stripped down but also comes with some cool features and surprises.

If you are a Fortnite gamer, who enjoys gaming on a laptop, then you’ve probably never considered getting a Chromebook before. However, you can play the Epic Games title on a Chromebook – here’s how.

How to play “Fortnite” on a Chromebook.

Chromebooks are generally very inexpensive compared to other laptops because Chrome OS is relatively resource-efficient, which means they don’t require a lot of high-end specs to run well.

That’s not to say that there aren’t Chromebooks with decent processors and a fair amount of RAM. Pixelbooks and Pixelbook GO are prime examples, along with several ASUS and HP Chromebooks.

But even if you’re running a mid-range Chromebook that only costs you a few hundred dollars, you have several launch options. Fortnite on this modest piece of material.

Technically, Epic doesn’t support Chrome OS or Linux, but there are ways around that.

Which brings us to the first way you can play Fortnite on a Chromebook – by side-loading the Android app on your Chrome OS device. Here’s how to do it:

  • Activate developer mode on your Chromebook. (Shut down your Chromebook, then hold ESC and F3 while pressing the power button. Then release the power button. This will bring you to the recovery screen, once inside, press CTRL + D to activate developer mode.)
  • Activate Android apps, check out this handy guide on how to do it here.
  • Then go to Settings -> Google Play Store -> Manage Android Preferences.
  • Tap Security.
  • Tap Unknown sources.
  • Then go to fortnite.com/android and register EpicGamesApp.apk. Or you can just click here to download the APK.
  • Download the APK to your Chromebook (you can download and transfer it from an Android phone with a USB cable, or download it directly from the link above).
  • Run the EpicGamesApp.Apk file on your Chromebook.
  • Next, tap on Package Installer.
  • Tap Install.
  • Click on Open.
  • Then tap Install.
  • Complete the installation.
