Gasoline Gypsies will be at Sperry’s Arcadehouse for the release of a new game

Music, food and video games: a perfect combination for Gasoline Gypsies and Sperry’s Arcadehouse.

Michigan-based band Gasoline Gypsies will be at Sperry’s Arcadehouse in downtown Port Huron on Friday for a video game launch party. They teamed up with longtime friend and Kelsoft founder Kelly McGeary to create a video game based on the band. McGeary said the game took just over two years to develop.

“I’m excited and a little nervous,” he said. “The game came out so much bigger than I anticipated.”

The party takes place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Patreon members enter for free. Food and beverages will be provided by Sperry’s.

Gasoline Gypsies game is an 8 bit style game with 14 levels and bosses. Players can choose to play as band members Caleb Malooney, Neal Love, Steve Briere, and Joe Makowski. The game also has a few unlockable mini-games that people can enjoy.

Each level is based on a location in Michigan. Although not intentional, a level may remind players of Sperry’s Arcadehouse.

“All of the levels are loosely based on different locations and the arcade level feels like Sperry’s,” McGeary said. “It was funny because we didn’t plan for that, and the arcade wasn’t even open when I got to that level.”

Steven Potter, assistant manager of Sperry’s, said he had been working with McGeary and Malooney for a few weeks to organize the event. He said everyone at Sperry was thrilled with the launch party.

“We’re happy to be a part of this and I think it’s a really cool opportunity for everyone involved,” Potter said.

Although the party starts at 8 p.m., Patreon members who show up at 7 p.m. will be able to play the game on one of the screens at Sperry’s. Petrol Gypsies will hang out with the revelers. In addition, they will do a half-hour acoustic set.

Malooney said he and the rest of the group were looking forward to the event.

“I really thought it would be a goofy game on a level that people could download for free,” he said. “Now, two years later, it’s a full-fledged video game, so that’s pretty cool.”

The Gasoline Gypsies game will be available on IOS, Android and Windows. Party attendees will also receive mobile keys to download the game to their preferred platform.
