The recently published Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga follows a long line of game adaptations of the iconic star wars movies. Even games with original stories such as Shadows of the Empire and dark forces proposed levels strongly related to the films.
But as fans began to demand more, game developers began to deliver products with completely original stories. Fans will never forget these must-have games that include some of the greatest games of all time star wars gaming experiences.
Knight of the Old Republic (2003)
Breakthrough RPG from 2003 Knights of the Old Republic is widely regarded as the greatest star wars game of all time. Set thousands of years before the movies, the game features a completely original story about an all-out attack on the Republic by Sith Lord Dark Malek.
The game features deep and interesting characters, breathtaking worlds, clever writing, and a unique alignment system where players’ actions determine how much they lean towards the light or dark side. The game’s iconic reveal will soon be experienced by a new generation of fans in the game’s upcoming remaster.
Knight of the Old Republic 2 (2004)
KOTORThe 2004 sequel was developed by Obsidian and gave the team great experience that would go on to make Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds. Players assume the role of an exiled Jedi in a story set five years after the events of the first game.
A few characters and elements have returned from the first game, including the spaceship The Ebon Hawk and the fan-favorite droid HK-47. The game was praised but also criticized for being released in an unfinished state. Thankfully, fans have since modded the game into a more complete experience.
Jedi Fallen Order (2019)
Jedi: Fallen Order was one of the few games released during the era of EA’s exclusivity on the star wars Games. A Souls-like game, it featured jaw-dropping worlds and engaging combat.
In the years following Order 66, Kal Cestis searches for a Jedi Holocron as he is pursued by the empire’s sinister Inquisitor. According to We have this coverthe game is the first in a trilogy and the first sequel is currently in development.
Jedi Knight (1997)
A sequel to dark forces1997 jedi knight enhances the first-person shooter experience with new lightsaber combat and strength abilities. The series’ protagonist, Kyle Katarn, learns that his father was a Jedi and sets out to avenge him.
This game cemented Katarn as one of the most iconic characters in the expanded universe. One of the all time greats star wars games, it received an extension called Mysteries of the Sith in 1998.
Outcast Jedi (2002)
The third in the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, Outcast Jedi was an escape from the classic star wars amidst the Prequel Trilogy boom. After turning his back on the Force, Kyle had to rediscover his newfound powers as he faced a new Dark Power threat.
The story was highly rated, but players were unable to use lightsabers until they progressed through the game. However, what the game had was a phenomenal multiplayer mode with the Death Star map most satisfying of all time.
Jedi Academy (2003)
One year later Outcast Jedi, LucasArts has released the latest episode of the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. This time Katarn was an NPC as he and Luke Skywalker formed the next generation of Jedi. The new player character was Jaden Corr.
Players could choose Jaden’s gender, race, and whether they followed the light or dark path. The game has slowly opened up a pool of missions for the player to choose any order they want.
Rogue Squadron Series (1998-2003)
In 1998, LucasArts released the game N64 Thieves Squadron, a flight simulator that puts players in the cockpit of X-Wings, Y-Wings and other members of the famous Rebellion elite fighter squadron. The game was hugely popular and also produced two terrific GameCube sequels.
Each game featured an original story that eschewed the events of the film, sometimes drawing from existing expanded universe works. However, each game also featured bonus levels based on iconic battles from the movies, including one where you play as Darth Vader in another battle of Yavin.
Immortal Vader (2019)
Immortal Vader is a VR experience in 3 episodes by David Goyer, author of Black Knight Trilogy, and Isaac Asimov’s adaptation The foundation. Goyer quoted The Raiders of the Lost Ark as an influence in the adventure.
The story features a Force-sensitive captured by Darth Vader to search for an artifact. The player uses a lightsaber and various force abilities to progress through the linear story. It is available on Oculus and PSVR.
The Force Unleashed (2008)
The Force Unleashed The series featured fast-paced action levels with lightsaber combat and strength powers. In the unforgettable opening level of the first game, the player has taken control of a full-powered Darth Vader on Kashyyyk.
From there, the player hunted the surviving Jedi as Starkiller, Vader’s new apprentice. The game also featured alternate versions of events from the movies, such as killing Vader and other major characters.
The long-awaited return of space combat games, Squadrons was the last release in EA’s era of star wars exclusivity. Unlike the Thieves Squadron Games, Squadrons was played exclusively from a first-person perspective, making for a great VR experience.
The game featured an original story set five years after Return of the Jedi and followed the perspective of New Republic and Empire pilots. Although the game does not offer much content, the gameplay is simply stunning.
